"A Biometric Solution for Secure Environments"
As information becomes increasingly commonplace through the "new medium" such
as the Internet and open systems without security and privacy in place, companies
are coming forward offering "secure solutions". What all organizations needing
a secure environment are looking for is an identification and authentication
process for access to secure data or sites.
One solution riding a wave of optimism is "biometrics", especially since the
Federal Government passed legislation requiring medical records be safeguarded.
The legislation, commonly referred to as (HIPPA) Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act, to be implemented by the year 2002 has the medical industry
scrambling for solutions.
Biometrics employ all sorts of forms from fingerprint recognition, which has
some draw backs; mostly because of the association of guilt and privacy or "big
brother" mentality. Eye scans, voice recognition and multiple other combinations
related to the genetic structure of humans makes up the biometrics solution
companies are now offering as a secure solution.
One company, SAFLink offers a series of products which guard systems, internet
applications, file servers, workstations and other technology equipment from
being compromised.
The biometrics, which include hardware and software applications have been specifically
designed to provide a security framework for network administrators to set authentication
requirements based on both the user level and the application or data security
requirements.
SAFLink is different from its competitors because it is an administrator-controlled
model rather than the user controlled models inherent in other products. SAFLink
also works with existing operating systems and is not married to one biometric
solution regarding hardware devices. Please choose from the articles below...
